eatery challenge #4

in my spring fare post,
one of my items was to "have shakes at twisted root."

well it didnt really go down that way.
i had been craving a burger. a real burger.
not some cheesy frozen patty from a window.
so husband and i made plans for saturday night to go over to the twisted root.

twisted root really became popular when they were featured on diners, drive-ins and dives
and they never looked back..

they have a couple locations within the metroplex,
but we opted for the roanoke location in the heart of their "downtown." it was a bustling saturday night, people lined the streets everywhere and i knew it was gonna be packed.

with a sprawling menu of what seemed to be a million options i selected the st patty's patty (the month special) & a side of french fries.

the st patty's patty was a
1/2 burger* with pepperjack cheese, bacon (REAL bacon!) & avocado ranch. all typical condiment veggies included. and the fries were regular fresh cut fries. husband and i split a bucket o' beer. & he had the buffasin burger with a side of fried pickles. buffasin  = half buffalo, half venison

along with condiments they have a pickle bar! pickle bar! even snooki would be impressed by this thing.  pickles ranged from regular dill to atomic and had a little of everything in between. my favorite?? the sweet and spicy for sure! and all fresh made. nothing from the back of a pantry cabinet that has a sysco price sticker.

as ron burgundy was called, we hurried to the counter to retrieve our meal. heaven was about to be experienced.

every bit of this meal was pure deliciousness.  and i mean every word of it.and not only do that have your generic ketchup and mustard, they have chipotle ketchup & honey dijon mustard with horseradish. yum yum!

twisted root is definitely a must visit if you are in the dfw area, whether living or visiting.  menu items also include a black bean burger for the animal friendly & turkey burger for the cow friendly. do not expect chicken anywhere on the menu. you wont find it, they dont carry it. oh and exotic game burgers? oh yeah it happens here..

*all burgers are 1/2 lb. so sharing is always an option

and lets not forget dessert.  sno-cones, cotton candy & adult and virgin milkshakes have their own menu.  thats for next time, when i dont completely stuff my face.  or maybe decide to overstuff my face.

rating on a scale of 1 to 10? um a million!  already planning our next visit!

have a happy weekend

its friday!
heres to a great weekend!

what are you and your loved ones doing this weekend?

husband and i are going to pack some more. you never realize how much stuff you have until you have to pack it up. we also have a jillion things we need to take to the donation station as well.

maybe we will squeeze in a good eatery to include in the challenge

did anyone watch missing?  i was told its super fantastic, so maybe i will fit viewing this into my schedule.

also going to work on the hop project.
  - going to come up with some more ideas to generate donations for feeding america. thinking design based options or something like that..
  -  i would love getting some more people involved in the hop - raising funds all over the world even. if you are interested, give me a shout, i would love you have you apart of this. email me for details: cheersbethani@live.com

eatery challenge #3

sunday husband and i
along with his dad, step mom & two sisters (twins!)
decided to meet up for a late lunch
at eatery challenge location numero tres.

located in a little home just off main street in grapveine
this is the perfect setting for a meal with family or friends.

i love browsing the menu each time we dine there
trying to decide what i will be having
*i've never gotten a bad meal there*

i finally opted for
tacos al carbon
two flour tortillas with steak
served with a side of frijoles & rice
i'm not a fan of the little greenm peas & carrots
but eh i can pick those out..

the dish was also served with a side of sour cream
& pico de gallo << which i'm not a fan of. those nasty tomatoes & onions.

i really enjoyed my meal, too bad i had to many
chips & salsa during the pre game wait.

esperzas is a definite (and always!) thumbs up
& if you are looking for a tasty thirst quenching margarita**,
this is the place for you

oh dont forget to try the deep fried avocado stuff with
your choice of:
beef or chicken
(i choose chicken!)

**due to the potency of the margaritas, limit 2 per customer unless you are ordering an entree.**

eatery challenge #2

it was a very eventful weekend for husband and i, which made it seem to zoom right by.

saturday we hopped over to our "new home" and showed it off to our families and one of my co-workers
who just so happens to live right down the street! how convenient right?!

after working up a sweat showing off our new home,
husband, i and my side of family headed to what has now become eatery challenge numero dos
to sastify our sweet tooths

they offer all kinds of sweet treats
from frozen yogurt with ALL the toppings
to pastries, even crepes!
let's just say theres a little something for everyone there.

while the majority was mixing and matching yogurts,
i opted for red velvet cake. obviously!
it wasn't quite what i was expecting.
i was thinking perfect red velvet with a layer of
blissful cream cheese frosting in between then frosted with yet
another layer of cream cheese frosting.

i was wrong.

the layer in between was some weird vanilla pale pink colored
frosting. far from the cream cheese type my taste buds were ready for. i was a bit sad, but i ate it anyway.
now the top was cream cheese frosting, but the middle layer was so vanilla-y that i couldnt get the true red velvet - cream cheese combo that i was really set out to get.

the others had yogurt (which i have experienced in the past)
and they do have pretty awesome options along with a topping bar that seems to go on forever.

if you're not in the mood for sweets, they also offer
pizza cones (never heard of these before)
chinese food
& tacos.

quite the assortment eh?

blue cherry ranks high on my list of places to frequent
but i sadly will say, i will not be getting their
red velvet cake again.

emilee finishing her yogurt with a straw.

later this week, you will get a few recipes (including super easy monkey bread)
and maybe a few other fun things.

hope you all had spectacular weekends and have a rockin' monday!

eatery challenge #1

learning and playing with betty has become of my most favorite pasttimes. i think husband is in agreeance on this one.  a few of my favorite apps include: instagram (most favorite!), urbanspoon & just recently foursquare.

i'm taking it upon myself (and maybe forcing husband) to start trying more off the beaten path eateries. by that i mean no name brand style eating.  first it makes life more interesting, but most of all, it allows us to discover new, yummy, and different foods than we arent used to.

so i'm taking a pledge. kind of like molly did.

- must be non name brand. chilis, pf chang's, etc dont count
- must include photo(s) and description of food at each place
-eatery can not be used twice in posts
- overall rating of eatery

sounds like fun right???

to get this started:
(pictured above)
a very simple & cheap! taqueria
menu ranges from street tacos to quesadillas
& even includes gringo (white man!) tacos

i melted immediately when i saw their offerings of street car tacos and opted for something simple - 2 barbacoa tacos
at only $1.25 a piece i knew this was my kind of establishment
we added a side of rice ($1) & chips and salsa ($1.50) too.
drinks were the icing on the cake. jarritos! seriously.
include some drug cartels and i was deep in the heart of mexico (jk!)

husband enjoyed barbacoa, pastore & some other taco i cant remember at the moment, all which he thoroughly enjoyed.

tacos came basic (corn tortillas and meat)
& a dressing bar was a free for all
cilantro, lime, onions, pico de gallo
& countless salsa for the picking.

so if youre in the area and need a quick cheap taco fix,
el taco h. is just for you.

would i eat there again?!
heck yeah man! already saving my pennies for it. :)
